It’s always hard to figure out where to draw the line when it comes to price and quality. I mean, no one really wants to spend money unnecessarily if they can get the same quality for cheaper, right? The real question is how do you know? How can the consumer know when or when not to skimp on the price without compromising the quality? Well, as a first time mother, here are a few of my personal experiences with purchases gone-bad.
There is a popular opinion that buying clothes for a new born is a waste of money since they outgrow the clothes very fast. So like any inexperienced mother, I listened to other people’s advice and skimped on the new born clothes, buying the cheapest stuff I could find since she would outgrow it soon anyways. Well, boy was that a mistake! Some things are worth spending the money on and good quality clothing is one of them, especially if you plan on having more than one kid (and you don’t buy all blue or pink clothing). None of the cheap clothes that I bought before giving birth made it through the laundry more that a couple of times. One after another, the clothes feel apart. Strings pulled, buttons cracked and colors faded. So ultimately, instead of saving money on clothes, I actually had to re-buy thing the whole way through. So take my advice and buy ‘em once, and buy ‘em good.
Now there are other things that are definitely worth saving money on. Fresh wipes for example don’t have to be brand name to work. Regardless of the brand, her tushy ends up clean. The same is true for toys. It’s hard for new mothers not to get excited about the variety of colorful and complex toys out there. Only the best stores with the best toys for me. But remember, the toy is for your kid, not for you! and they will most likely not know the difference if it cost more than you can afford, so don’t brake your account with all the dadgety, gimmicky stuff when all she really needs is a colorful (and noisy) rattle.
And don’t even get me started on diapers and baby food. All I have to say is coupons, coupons, and coupons.
