Gym Time, My Time?

We’ll its not easy juggling motherhood and a full time job and still find time to get to the gym, especially if your husband behaves like one of the kids. So when did going to the super market or out to the gym become considered down-time? Lately it’s been hard to find any time for myself. Unless I want to stay awake past midnight for some alone time (and trust me, on occasion, I do), how do working mothers really find quality time for themselves without feeling guilty or breaking the budget on babysitters? Do I really need to “pretend” that we are out of milk to get 20 min alone to myself?

Well sisters, for those lucky ones that work out of the house, you can claim to stay late at the office and stroll around the mall instead. You think I’m kidding? How many times does your husband call to tell you he’ll be late, just to grab a beer with a friend? Don’t be naive. If the men can do it, so can we!

But what I really recommend is waking up early. It’s amazing how much an hour of quiet in the morning can do for you. I’m not suggesting that you wake up at 4am just to have an hour to yourself, but if you normally wake up at 7am, then 6:30am for a cup of coffee in the garden will really jump start your day. Everyone needs time to themselves, and everyone needs to find a way to stay sane. So whether it’s an hour in the garden or a stroll in the mall, make alone time a priority (or your psychologist bill will start to add up). One thing is certain; don’t let your family convince you that going to the gym or picking up the groceries is quiet time to yourself.
